After the fairytale wedding between Sissi (Schneider) and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria (Böhm), Sissi waits impatiently to spend time with her new husband. Finally Sissi becomes pregnant with their first child and she is overjoyed, until Franz Joseph's mother makes the decision that Sissi is too young to look after her baby. This follow-up to the first Sissi film (1955) follows her first years in court and her adjustment to being part of a joint monarchy.
